Get to Know Carol Baker

Hi, I am a local girl, who was educated at The Abbey School, Reading and I qualified as a registered osteopath and naturopath in 2003 from The British College of Osteopathic Medicine, London; gaining a first class honors degree. I have been interested in osteopathic medicine since the age of 12 when I developed an injury whilst trampolining for Great Britain. I had a successful sporting career myself in trampoline and enjoyed being part of the Great Britain youth and senior team and taking part in various international competitions as well as world championships for both my individual event and synchro. I now specialise in sports rehabilitation and have a keen interest in injury prevention in elite adolescent athletes.

I was involved in the Paddington train crash in 1999, which was not on the five year plan! However, I picked myself back up recuperated from the injuries. I sustained both physical and emotional issues and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia but I worked hard and focused on my career and family.. This experience has taught me a lot about life and death and has embedded the importance of the triad of health and the balance of the three osteopathic, naturopathic and counselling philosophies.

Since I graduated I have expanded my knowledge, skills and competency through dynamic continuing professional development. In particular I have focused on gaining teaching experience working as an osteopathic clinical tutor and dissertation supervisor at Oxford Brookes University for six years. I have gone on to complete my PGCE from University Farnborough Centre where I have been teaching health and social care. My continued professional development has been a combination of formal education such as a dry needling western acupuncture course in 2004, research methods and examiner training and a variety of experiential learning gaining further knowledge in antenatal and post-natal care. I have developed a special interest in supporting people diagnosed with chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia and musculoskeletal elderly care. I am a qualified counsellor gaining excellent feedback from my level 4 advanced counselling diploma, where I aim to enhance my abilities to provide a fully bespoke holistic health and wellbeing clinic.

Anyway enough about me! I look forward to meeting you and helping you back on the road to recovering from whatever injuries, aches or pains that are troubling you.

Best Wishes,
Carol Baker
